The most interesting story  of lentil soup appears in the old Testament, in a story about the two twin sons of Isaac.
Essay, the first born, coming  back
hungry from hunting asks Jacobs portion of food. Jacob gives him the soup, but instead asks for his birth-rights. His brother starts laughing but accepts. And so, Esau surrender their right of first born in exchange for a plate of lentil  soup.
